A safe-at-home space for youth in Grades 3-8 to have some STEM summer fun!

NEW IN 2021!

Join us this July and August for our NEW week-long, remote summer clubs! Members will get to participate in daily, virtual sessions led by our incredible team of undergraduate Science & Engineering students.

All materials will be shipped to members ahead of time, and we are offering these clubs in both English and French!

In 2021, we are offering two different club streams for youth to explore: our S.T.E.A.M. Club, which will have different themed weeks every week, and our Space Farm Club, which will be offered every week throughout the summer. Read more below!

Details:

We are offering week-long Summer Clubs for six different weeks from July to August for Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-8.

Club members can sign up for one week at a time and participate in a daily virtual meeting (1.5 hours) with their Summer Club instructors from Monday to Friday of that week. When you register below, you will be able to select your club stream (see below), your week and your time slot.

Each club will have 8 members and 2 undergraduate student instructors.

Every week, we will offer some of our clubs in French; each club listed below will have room for 8 members.

stream 1: SPACE FARM CLUB STREAM

Your team of scientists is given a seemingly impossible mission:

“Take these 4 different types of plants, and make sure they grow… in space.”

Before you know it, you wind up at the Space Farm, a spaceship full of scientists who aim to grow plants for food, for oxygen, and for their overall survival.

Sign up for Space Farm Club to learn about how technology and agriculture work hand-in-hand for all of us and learn how you can use agricultural practices, coding and technology to grow a plant from your very own home—I mean, spaceship!

 

stream 2: S.T.E.A.M. CLUB STREAM

$100/WEEK | MATERIALS INCLUDED

“S.T.E.A.M.” stands for “Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math” and there is no better name for this club option! S.T.E.A.M. Club members get to explore a different theme each week they sign up for; sign up for one week, two weeks, or even all six! WEEK 1 - JULY 5-9
EXTREME ENGINEERING

Explore the exciting world of engineering! Spend the week using the engineering design process to come up with creative solutions for a variety of exciting design challenges. If you like to build, create and want to learn more about what engineering is, this is the week for you!

WEEK 2 - July 12-16
Going Green with wise

Go green with WISE! The world is a cool place— let’s learn more about how to take care of it! Members of this week’s club will do different activities, experiments and DIYs to explore how S.T.E.M. looks out for our planet and how we can continue to make sustainable choices each and every day.

 

WEEK 3 - july 19-23
Medical Science

Calling all future nurses, doctors, biologists, and healthcare professionals! Learn more about the human body and taking care of it through a variety of activities, experiments and games Topics to be explored include: DNA & genetics, nutrition, the human heart, the human lungs and so much more!

WEEK 4 - july 26-30
Ecology & EcosysteMS

Planet Earth is filled to the brim with fascinating creatures and fascinating places! Join us this week as we dive into the world of living things and their ecosystems and how they work together to survive. Topics to be explored include: sea creatures, Manitoba animals, ecosystems and more!

 

WEEK 5 - august 9-13
CHEMISTRY

A little bit of this… A little bit of that… Put it all together… Then, what happens next? Chemistry Club members might know the answer after this week! Sign up to participate in so many exciting experiments, activities and more!

WEEK 6 - august 16-20
Codemakers

This week, we tackle the world of technology, computer science and computer engineering! Through activities like coding, robot-design and so much more, members learn about how the world around them was shaped by computer science and how they can use technology now to solve some everyday problems!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED to participate in our clubs

  • A desktop computer or laptop with USB port (Space Farm Club only), working microphone and speakers, webcam* (optional), keyboard and mouse/trackpad

  • An internet connection that can support video streaming— broadband wired or wireless (at least 3G or 4G/LTE)

  • Recommended browser: Google Chrome, Firefox, Edge
